TextAloud is probably one of the most popular shareware text-to-speech programs today. Since it's been around for quite some time, the development team working on this project have had a lot of time to make improvements to the software and it has improved a lot over time.

This TTS program uses voice synthesis converting text into audio with human-sounding voices. Exporting the produced audio is also possible by selecting either MP3 or WMA.

Several different options for TextAloud are presented giving you the option to change the pitch of speed of the text being spoken aloud. Feature-rich, this TTS application can also read the contents of Microsoft Word documents, HTML web pages and PDF files. Support is also offered with an Internet Explorer plugin available along with support for Firefox by way of a toolbar.

Uses for text to speech software are numerous, but this program was designed for making it easier to listen to your emails or web pages while you're on the go, hence its support for portable media files like mp3s.

The main interface of this program is like a dvd or mp3 player, making it easy to play/pause/stop/fast forward, etc.

TextAloud currently supports ATT Natural Voices, Nuance RealSpeak or Acapela BrightSpeech and Elan.

This download is licensed as shareware for the Windows operating system from text to speech software and can be used as a free trial until the trial period ends (after 20 days).
